The beach: My Khe
My Khe (China Beach) is the draw — a 6 km arc of fine sand with a gentle slope, rated among Asia's best for swimming. Early mornings are for locals doing tai chi and jogging; the sunsets pull families and games of football on the sand. Da Nang Beach stretches further north if you want quiet.
The Son Tra peninsula
Monkey Mountain (Son Tra) rises wild right on the coast — home to the Linh Ung pagoda with its 67-metre Lady Buddha, and troops of monkeys. Rent a motorbike and loop the road at dawn or dusk; the views back over the bay and city are the best in the region.
City landmarks & day trips
In town: the Dragon Bridge (spits fire and water at 21:00 Sat–Sun), the 5th-century Cham sculpture museum, and Han Market on the river. Hub of the day-trip map — Hoi An's lantern-lit old town is 45 minutes south, Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge an hour west, and Marble Mountains sit 15 minutes out.
Eat
Central Vietnam eats differently from Hanoi and Saigon: richer, saltier, and built around riverside seafood.
What to order
Mi Quang — turmeric noodles with pork, shrimp and sesame crackers — is the local hero (25,000–40,000 VND). Add banh xeo (crispy crepe), bun bo Hue from the north, and stop at a mushroom-noodle joint (mi quang nam) for a vegetarian line. A filling local meal runs 30,000–60,000 VND (~$1.5–2.5).
Coffee & beach-front eats
Da Nang's café scene is strong — nomads.com's pick is Bread n Salt near My Khe. Seafood grills cluster along the beach road: pick the live tank, not the menu. Smoothie bowls and egg coffee are everywhere; West-life prices only right on the shorefront.

My Khe / Ngu Hanh Son
Nomad ground zero — Khue My ward and An Thuong are full of serviced apartments and beachfront co-living. Walk to breakfast and the sea. Monthly studio ~$400–600.
City centre (Song Han / Han river)
Closer to the airport, Dragon Bridge and the coffee scene; slightly older buildings. Good for short stays and families. 1-bedroom ~$350–550.
Marble Mountains edge
Quieter, greener, pricier villas — better for longer stays or remote workers who want zero nightlife noise. ~$600+ monthly.
Logistics
Da Nang airport (DAD) is 15 minutes from the town centre — one of the most convenient city airports in Asia. Grab and the local Gojek-equivalent move you for a few dollars; motorbike rental is 150,000–200,000 VND/day and the beach road is the easiest riding in Vietnam.
Cash by card mix: cards work almost everywhere on the beach strip (nomads.com: 'cards OK almost everywhere'), but carry cash for street food and local markets. Tongue-in-cheek but real: tipping is not expected.
Weather: the beach season runs March–September (dry, hot). October–February brings rain and the occasional typhoon — before you book a long winter stay, weigh that against the sunny south.
Best Time to Visit
Mar–Sep (dry, beach weather). Expect afternoon rain Oct–Feb; avoid the wet-peak months if you're beach-first.
