Canggu Before Nine: Surf First, Laptop Later

Canggu has two populations and they barely overlap. The laptop crowd appears around ten. Six hours earlier, the sand belongs to surfers — and the water is glassy in a way it never is by noon.

Dawn patrol

By 6:30 the board rentals on Batu Bolong are open and the first sets roll through. A board costs roughly 50,000–80,000 rupiah for the morning; lessons run about double. The break is forgiving — soft peaks, sandy bottom, and enough space that beginners aren't fighting for waves.

Warung breakfast

Out of the water by eight, still salt-crusted, into the nearest warung. Nasi goreng and a fresh coconut set you back about 40,000 rupiah. Smoothie bowls cost triple and arrive an hour later — your call.

Then the other shift starts

Around nine the scooters flood Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong and the beach clubs open their daybeds. This is when Canggu turns into the place remote workers picture: laptops out, poolside calls, sunset sessions booked for later.
